MESH Engineering was contracted by a leading International automotive component manufacture to design and manufacture a “Platform Machine” that could perform multiple operations utilizing the same hardware on each machine. MESH worked with the customers engineering department and designed a platform for the machines needed for their operation. All of the machines utilize a PLC, Fanuc LR Mate Robot and Donor Conveyors as the major components. We have manufactured three (3) machines that apply wax to the ID of the part, two (2) machines that utilize a PPT Vision System that inspects that inspects the parts for defects and then utilizes a Laser to engrave a product and date code onto the part and one (1) machine that applies gel to the ID of the part. Depending on the machine the cycle time varies from 4 seconds per part on the Wax and Gel machines and 8 to 11 seconds on the Vision/Laser Machine. The platform design of these machines has allowed our customer to procure multiple machines with very low engineering cost and shorter lead times than would be required for a custom machine specific to each operation.
