What is SIL 3?
SIL (Safety Integrity Level) is a measure of a product's ability to lower the risk that a dangerous failure could occur, as defined in IEC 61508 “Functional Safety of Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Safety-Related Systems.” SIL defines a product's ability to operate in safety-rated aspects of a control system. SIL 2 and SIL 3 are the most common levels for machinery and process safety applications. A GuardLogix controller can be used in applications that require the use of SIL 2 or SIL 3 compliant products.
