The first factory was established in Lachute, Québec, about 35 miles north-west of Montreal.
Since its beginnings, EXM has been committed to research and development, for new innovative products and numerous accessories to compliment its extensive enclosure and cabinetry offering.
In the late seventies, EXM introduced European-style deep drawn industrial enclosures on the Canadian market.
The enclosures at that time were manufactured by pressing high quality steel into a mould to form a box. This process eliminated welding distortion and produced a rigid enclosure of uniform and pleasant appearance.
In 1985, EXM opened a second factory in Mississauga, ON. This allowed the company to broaden its market base in Canada.
In the nineties, EXM acquired new automated machinery which allowed the production of a new generation of quality industrial enclosures, namely the 5412 ES and 5412 ESCH series. These boxes featured significant advantages, which were and are still unparalleled in the industry.
EXM innovated by introducing enclosures with flange-mounted quarter-turn locks and heavy-duty die cast hinges.
EXM is also the only major Canadian enclosure manufacturer to use poured in place gaskets on all of their products.
EXM moved its installations to two new fully automated manufacturing facilities in Blainville, QC and Mississauga, ON, in 1992.
EXM announced in 2004 its newest addition to the product line, a line of Modular enclosures, to be marketed as the 6500 MTRX Line of Modular cabinetry.
In 2005, EXM announced the acquisition of certain assets of McKinstry Inc, of Chicopee Massachusetts a company specialising in the manufacture of High quality enclosures.
In September 2007, EXM Moved its USA headquarters to a new and more modern facility on 27 Otis street in Westborough, MA.
The company also changed its name to "EXM". The new name reflected EXM's intentions to export its enclosures to the United States.
EXM announced in January 2008, the first ever on line box configurator ,allowing its customers quote and to design enclosures on line, also reducing shipping from 6 weeks as the Industry standard to 6 Days to ship.
EXM today has become one of the largest manufacturer of Electrical enclosures and accessories in North America.
