A failsafe, redundant SIMATIC system is based upon a standard CPU S7-414H or S7-417H. For use as failsafe controller, the user can expand the standard CPU to include safety-relevant functions with the S7-F Systems software package. This makes it possible to implement safety-relevant and redundant tasks inexpensively using the same components.
The CPUs can be expanded with ET 200M and/or ET 200S signal modules. PROFIBUS DP with PROFIsafe profile is used for communication between two failsafe CPUs or between one failsafe CPU and its failsafe I/O.
